We’ve built one of the most reliable and feature-rich website hosting platforms in the world, with us maintaining a 99.996% uptime ratio over the last 90 days.

However, as a result of us focusing on websites, we’ve been neglecting the domain side of our business. It has unfortunately gotten to the point where several of our customers have lost their domain entirely. Yes, you read that right. DoRoyal was directly responsible for letting a domain name, which was fully paid for by the client, expire. And not just one domain, either. We’re currently aware of at least fifteen instances of failed renewals resulting in deleted domain names.

For obvious reasons, we’re going to be making some rather serious changes here at DoRoyal, and hope to never have this happen again. To anyone. Ever.

Domain Price Adjustments

We’re changing the way we price our domains. Historically, we’ve always looked at the larger providers, and tried to undercut them by a dollar or two. Specifically, our main focus was GoDaddy. If they charge $20 for a domain, we’d usually charge $18 or $19.

To be clear, we’ve never really struggled to sell domain names. We could keep our domains priced at GoDaddy-like levels, and end up being totally fine, and still managing to sell quite a few domains overall. However, that’s not what DoRoyal is about. It goes against our core fundamentals and company values.

Starting immediately, we’ve opted to sell all of our domains with a $0.50 up to $2.00 markup. Meaning, if a domain costs us $10 to register, we will in turn sell that domain for no more than $12, and no less than $10.50.

With the new pricing, DoRoyal is now one of the cheapest places to buy a domain.

Fewer Registration Options / More Controlled Options

Since we’re going to try and offer domains at very minimal profit margins, we’ll need to offer fewer domains overall. This is mostly just to ensure that we can manage everything from our end. Don’t worry though, if you have a domain that we opt to stop selling, we’ll of course still offer renewals. This is strictly for new orders, not existing.

Better Domain Automation

Currently, we must manually by hand add funds to our ResellerClub account whenever a domain name has been ordered, renewed, or transferred in. This is a time consuming practice, and gets quite expensive as well, as ResellerClub charges fees on top of the fees that PayPal themselves charge. The result? We add $100, they take $10 for the privilege of having us do business with them.

ConnectReseller, on the other hand, has the ability to automatically add money whenever its balance goes below a certain threshold. While we’re not currently utilizing this feature, we fully intend to do so within the very near future.

The end result? No more failed renewals, or delayed registrations. Just pure, easy, and simple automation. We hope to be able to take full and proper advantage of ConnectReseller’s automation within the coming weeks and months. ResellerClub is being supported as a legacy registrar, which unfortunately means that there is going to still be a delay, at least for a little while.

We’re Seeking ICANN Accreditation

This will not be happening any time soon, and definitely not this year. That said, we are officially setting DoRoyal up to become an ICANN Accredited domain registrar.

We don’t know when this will happen, nor are we in much of a rush. However, there are some clear and obvious advantages to this, most notably lower registration costs.

Finally, If You’re Affected By The Failure To Renew

If you lost a domain because of this whole ordeal, these are our current compensation plans.

  1. 1. We will provide you with a domain in your original extension, even if it’s one that we no longer publicly sell.
  2. 2. You will be given a three year registration credit.
  3. 3. If you prepaid for multiple years, and the extra years failed to get added to your domain, you will be given the rest of the owed years back in credit.

We fully understand that some domain names are sentimental, or critical for business operations. If you were operating a for-profit business under your expired domain name, we will try and help you get the original domain back. If we cannot do so for any reason, we will provide you with an account credit worth up to $500.
